Is it possible just turn on the LCD so it works as a light ?

You could make a white screensaver with Quartz Composer that activates with a hot corner then just sleep/wake the iMac as necessary, leaving the cursor in the corner.

Or make a white JPEG with Appleworks, put it in a folder, and then tell SysPrefs to get the screen saver from that specific folder.

There was a program like this for the Palm. I used to have it. It was neat because it was a little $250 flashlight when I used it.

It seems like you could code something up and stick it in the dock.
