Ok heres the issues I am having.
I bought a Powerbook G4 867 Ti Book. It has a problem with the Left Hinge... it basically did what most ti books hinges do, break.
So i bought a G4 800 Ti book for the screen and figured I would give my wife the 800 with the bad hinged screen since she never takes her laptops anywhere.
Well I got the 800, turned it on it worked great. Then I removed the screens and swapped them only to be dismayed with a big problem.
During the removal and install the new screen lost a piece of the ribbon cable that i did not notice. (I am working on pictures right now to show what I am talking about).
The Ribbon cable for the display (The main one) lost a small piece of plastic on the end. This resulted in burning the chip right behind the main ribbon cable located next to the letters Q23.
It is only 6 prongs off the chip 3 on each side. I tested the old screen but no matter what I just get a white screen even though the system fully boots up.
Now I do not have any tip fine enough but I am looking for one. I also found someone who (While I pride myself of being a laptop specialist this is just not something I normally would even consider doing) says he is able to solder chips on the boards.
The 800 is working fine with the 867's screen. I am using it now... but I want a Radeon 9000 or better Powerbook G4. I could just put up with the 800 but for some reason I just want to get that 867 running. I have owned an 800 fully functional... the 867 and 1ghz models I have yet to personally own. While I am sure they are not much different I just would like to use one for myself *laugh*.
I have listed both laptops up for trade but if I can fix it then thats great.
What I need to know (Now that I have given such a long amount of information) is has anyone attempted to change the chips on a PB G4 board. I do not want to try this to only be doomed from the start. I will most likely pay the other gentleman to do it just to be safer but flat out I am running the risk of killing both machines running on LCD's externals they will work fine but thats it.
So if anyone has tried this or found this problem and corrected it I am interested in finding out whats going on and if this is a problem I can correct without concern.
Also if someone has say a Ti DVI Motherboard that is fried but this chip appears ok I will take that and try it with that board first, that way i do not damage the 800 System.
Thanks and if I made things confusing sorry... I sometimes do that.

I resoldered a power jack to a 400 once. Probably a bit easier than most of the chips, but if you're good with an iron, it can certainly be done.

Well they did not have one but I took the chance and used the chip off the 800DVI and now the 867 works great!!!! So the 800 just needs the same chip off a donar board and its good to go as well!
So it worked and everything is good to go!

If you can get some detailed pictures, I might be able to help you out in the soldering department :-)

I already got the job done, I just did not have a fine enough tip to really do the work and I needed the chip.
But I used the one off the 800DVI board and the 867 is up and going great.
I did make another thread I guess I should link the two. The thread is the one on the 500mhz G4 MB chip here in this section.
I posted the pics I had there if your still interested in what I did.
Thanks again!
