Ok I have been looking into what I can do with my new 14" iBook G4.
I have seen paint jobs and keyboard swaps.
I tried a TiBook's Keyboard however only the esc-f12 and arrow keys fit.
So for those who have tried a few things like cooling and the MB Swaps like I eventually did with my TiBook those would be awesome to share to lol.
I guess lets just see whats been done and the crazy idea's everyone has
I will be pulling my G4 apart soon to see what I can mod in it to make it a custom fit for me.

iBook = clear polycarbonate plastic with paint on the inside. This means you can get a scratch on your ibook without it being a different color.
Now, not only will you have to lightly sand EVERYTHING and clean it with alcohol in order to give the paint decent adhesion, it will be on the 'surface' of the ibook, and thus chip and scratch off. First place will probably be the corners or the wrist area. Once you have chips, it looks like ass, the resale value plummets, and you realize you would have been better off leaving it alone.

Ah. Same difference. Scratch either one, and it doesn't change color. Painting the surface of said soft plastic would definitely result in scratches with even careful use.

actually the G3 ibooks are the one's painted on the inside. you can take the outer shell of of the G3 snow white ibooks and soak it in a tub of rubbing alcohol i think its rubbing alcohol and scrub the paint off with a tooth brush and repaint the inside of the shell they have a guide over at www.macmod.com on how to do this. this is one way that i know of on how to paint the G3 ibook without having to worry about chipping or scratching the paint because the paint is on the inside of the casing. if i had a ibook G4 and i was looking into painting the case i would look into maybe switching the shel with a older ibook G3 shell not sure if it would line up the same but its worth looking into if it means a good quality long lasting paint job.

i'd think the top has a good chance of fitting....the bottom would take lots of work...i think the g3 ibooks (at least some of them) were tray loading in regards to the optical drive....

I just finished a process of rebuilding a 1Ghz G4 14" iBook with parts from a 14" G3 iBook. The G3 has a tray loading case while the G4 has a slot. The big difference though was the recessions that hold the 2 hex screws for the bottom case toward the hinges, are deeper on the G3 than the G4 and therefore prevented the case from fitting.
I was replacing the screen in the G4 with the one from the G3 and had to completely disassemble the both systems in order to do that. While I was in there I decided to paint the backside case for the screen. Something to do. It was a good project.

Use a plastic or vinyl die instead of paint. It will absorb into the plastics and look more factory and clean.
