Why is 1.1GHz G3 seen in System Profiler as 500MHz?

I just got the 1.1GHz CPU upgrade for my Power Mac G3 B&W, I have installed the CPU Director software and disabled the DPM there and set the CPU setting in Energy settings to Highest. In CPU Director, it says the speed is 1100MHz, but in the system profiler, xbench, or any other program that shows the cpu speed reports the speed as 500MHz. Did I get ripped off or something?

i know that on a g3 that i overclocked, "about this mac" nor system profiler would give me the overclocked speed, but superpi and xbench showed improved scores/times, so i knew that the change was effective

I tried xbench with 500Mhz and 1.1GHz, there was a huge difference in the CPU test (9.13 vs 23.7). Well now i know that it actually runs at 1.1GHz but why doesn't system profiler report the speed at 1.1?

You must type something in the Open Firmware mode for About this Mac to show it right. It is different for every Mac.

What do I have to type in? This isn't really a problem, but since I'm a perfectionist, I need perfection. That's why I chose to use macs .

Macs ARE perfect.
It's just that we add imperfect hardware to them................
I wouldn't sweat what ASP shows for a processor, as ASP has ALMOST never properly identified an upgrade chip.
If CPU Director says it's set for 1.1 GHz, then that's what you're getting, or at least, very close to it.
Edit: Are you using the LATEST version of CPU Director ?
If you want to try running it at 1.2GHz (I've been crunching Seti for the last 9 months at 1.2 GHz), hold down COMMAND and OPTION as you click on CPU Director, and you will be able to select 1.2 GHz.
Actually, you can select way higher than that, but it won't run higher than 1.2 GHz (instant lockup).
p.s. Even at 1.2 Ghz, ASP says mine is 500Mhz.

I have the version of CPU Director that runs on 10.4.6, is that the latest version, or is there a version that can run on 10.4.7? Also, did you use the original heat sink? I'm using the original rev. A heat sink. Should I get a better one, because the heat sink is really hot even when the processor is idle.

ASP is reading the bus multipler, some upgrades use values for higher multipiers that are already defined by Apple as lower multipliers. ASP is not built to resolve speeds that are non-standard multipliers, and will report the "official" Apple speed even though the machine is really using the higher multiplier.

I had forgotten about my heatsink until you mentioned it. I DID get a larger heatsink from ebay a little over a year ago, I think it was from either a rev 2, or a G4, don't remember now. I DO remember that I only paid about 5 bucks for it.
In fact, here's one right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/G3-BLUE-WHITE-OV...QQcmdZViewItem
