I have an iMac G3/400 DV slot-loading model with an 80gb internal HD and 128 MB RAM. It has two firewire 400 ports, and two USB 1.1 ports.

I bought a Western Digital My Book Premium Edition 320GB External Hard Drive with dual interface firewire400 and USB 2.0. The software is supposed to just mount to your dektop off the HD.

I got to my house and connected it via Firewire and checked
the System Profiler and clicked on Firewire... For a few seconds
it showed "Firewire Device Tree" and then it just went back to what it
normally displays:

FireWire Bus:

Maximum Speed: Up to 400 Mb/sec

Then I decided to try hooking up the USB Port (even though I only have
a 1.1 port, and bought a 2.0 USB, but I read somewhere you can still
operate through a 1.1 port, just at a much slower rate.) and this
showed up in the system profiler. (As shown below)

USB Bus:
Host Controller Location: Built In USB
Host Controller Driver: AppleUSBOHCI
PCI Device ID: 0x0019
PCI Revision ID: 0x0000
PCI Vendor ID: 0x106b
Bus Number: 0x19

USB Device:

Version: ff.ff
Bus Power (mA): 500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Product ID: 0xffff
Vendor ID: 0x0928

All of that was only there when I hooked the HD through the computers USB port. But still no way to run the program off of it or anything else.

I tried a few other things after that but gave up and returned it. Is my computer configured wrong? Im very confused. I'd appreciate any help or reccomendations on the topic.
