Any ideas or takers on replacing the harddrive in a powerbook 12 g4 1.0Ghz for a solid state drive... 32gb would be sufficient... lokking to increase battery life and response time out of it... the idea is sound but I think i would need a converter for a parallel ssd to convert it to an IDE connection??? so if anyone knows how or has possibly done it or solid ideas that would be awesome... want to do this within the next few weeks...

how about THIS.

SSD in an IDE/2.5" form factor. tough price, but they will start to drop sooner or later...

best of luck.

I'd love to fit an SSD in my iBook and Cube, but I'm with peeb on this one. I think it's way too expensive for the moderate performance gains you would see. Once it costs ~$150 then it might be worth it, but until then, I seriously doubt the (very slight) increase in read-speeds would justify it.

As for battery-life, it would appear that SSD doesn't really give you a net gain in that regard--at least with the MacBook Air, anyway. I imagine it would apply to SSDs more generally.
