I have yet to hear a successful report with the 5400s, but I have yet to hear any report with the 5400s so there's no failures either.
Here's all the options, "best" depends if you mean best value or best performance.
Value: 2.33Ghz @ $478 each
Performance: 3.0Ghz @ $1225 each

wow that's a huge jump in price. even between the 2.66 and 3.0. not like i'll be doing this any time soon so hopefully they start going down considerably soon. and hopefully people start tinkering around with the various harpertowns as warranties run out.

I've been watching the prices myself but the prices are still to high. Looking at this chart.. Intel® Product Comparison Chart .. I don't think (could be wrong) the 5400 series will work due to its 45nm size compared to the 5300 size of 65nm. Maybe when itel releases there bigger core chips that the clovertowns will drop.

Heya crew! I've already tried the Harpertown 5405 in the Mac Pro units. Tried it in a 1,1 system which was originally a 2.66 Quad Core. No go, just got the CPU Error lights. Same problem when I tried som 5080's in there as well. MY best success was putting in a 2.4GHz ES CPU @ 1066MHz Bus and overclocking it to 3.0GHz at 1333MHz bus.
