OK Mac gurus before you ask why let me explain.

Alright I am unfortunate to own a Wallstreet 250 with a 13.3 inch
screen and it is the cursed bad apple of the old Powerbook line. I have
had every problem with it ie the hinges and various screen problems
etc... the machine has been fixed 3 times by Apple and now it out of
warranty. I am budgetting to buy a Ti once the problems on the current
Ti are sorted ie the DVD and battery I heard they have fixed them and
are shipping a technical revision now so I am happy about that.

So I want to remove the screen which doesn't work from the Powerbook.
The hingies have broken and cut part of the screen cables due to bad
design and this has stuffed up the screen it doesn't show anything just
blank white pixels. Also I cannot shut the powerbook and run it due to
the design so the screen has to stay open and it is a waste of desk
space space.

So I want change it into a mini desktop to use at home once I get the
Ti. I have a little look around the machine like I was 8 years old
again. There are two cables that connect the machine and the screen
under the cover that covers the brightness sound etc.. button can I
just unplug these and run it on a monitor. I have figured these are the
power and display cables so if disconnent them the machine will still
run with a monitor or do the cables have to be plugged in for the
system to boot?

Thanking you in advance. I would love to get some extra life out of a
machine that is not a portable anymore.

well, it's been a while since you posted but hopefully you come here often. anyways, just unplug those two wires(don't worry I have the exact same powerbook) and unscrew the four screws on the back of the powerbook. These screws are located in the little compartment where all the expansion slots are. You will need a torx 8 screw driver to do this. Now put all the screws back and put the computer back together. voila! you have a new desktop computer.
