OK, heres the situation - I have a old G3/350 with a DVD drive, and a new G4/533x2 with a CD-RW drive. however, because of other issues I need the CD-RW in the G3 and would like to have the DVD in the G4. If I were to just swap the drives and install the necessary software (9.1 on the G3, DVD stuff on the G4) would everything work as expected? Would this void my warrantee on the G4?

Theoretically it will be fine... but DVD decoding might be a problem... I'm not sure.
Also, recognising the burner could as well.
I say that cause its just like Apple to screw around with things like this.
The graphics card may not work with that particular DVD drive or something...
It prob will void the warranty, but if they don't know you've done it... (swap back if theres a prob).

the G4's use software Decodeing Vr. the G3 that uses hardware decodeing. I do rember try to do the same thing on a DP 450 adn I do think it worked. it won't void your warenty, you can add and remove drives and cards in G4's but not Imacs, Ibooks, or laptops.
