I have no definative knowledge.
But, no.
I'm sure someone with the factual reason will reply soon.
I just know it's not gonna work.

Yes, but CD-RW are sometimes a little wonkey in Non CD-RW drives.
CD-R's work in the Cubes 100%.

Clarify - CD-RW _drive_, or CD-RW _media_?
You can probably read at least some of the various media, but the jury is still out on the transferrability of the drives, the general concensus at the moment being 'probably not'

I think he wants to know if he can put the internal CD-RW drive from an iMac into a cube that has a DVD drive.
I don't think it's possible but I'm not an expert

Bingo.
To be more clear, I would take the dvd out of the cube and then put the cdrw in.
Is it not possible because of drive needed or space. I think they are the same size. not sure.

I see no reason why Apple would utilize completely different drives in its iMac and Cube machines - particularly given the unique slot-loading aspects of the drives. The drives in iMacs have always been low-profile drives (as has the Cube been) and no doubt the current CDRW-equipped Cubes are nothing more that the $1299 DVD models with their drives swapped as you can CTO the two higher-end model Cubes as both DVD or CDRW drive.
In short, the answer is yes - unless someone wants to prove me wrong?

that is what I thought, but wanted to ask around. Most people said no. I don't think apple would give out that kind of info.

Confirmed.
Checked the System Profiler and the CDRW drive in the newer iMacs is definitely the same as the CDRW drive in the newer Cubes (Matshita CW-7121). Go for it!
