Getting MacOS 8.5.1 to run on a G4. It's all in the MacOS ROM but I havn't a clue on how to modify it to bypass hardward check.

"Why?" you may ask? Becuase it was the best MacOS ever. At least, for now it is. And if I could get it to run under MacOS X I'd do that too!

Ya ever think about trying 8.6? That's a great system too, plus is works with more new apps than 8.5.1. Quite fast on a G4! Being forced to use 9.04 at work on a similar G4 makes me appreciate the simplicity and stability of 8.6.

If you do get 8.5.1 up with the system rom, try the VBasicOps, VBigNum, vectorops, VMathLib extentions from 8.6 for Altivec.
