Is it possible to overclock the G4 400 that is in my Power Mac (AGP Graphics)? I am holding off for the G5, and I'd like to get a little more performance out of my mac if possible. Anyone know how to do this, and if it's even possible? I'm not too good with this, so any info, or relevant links, with pictures especially, would be good. Thanks.

You can make it a 450 or 500, maybe even 550- and a few other combinations. let me get that link for you.

after some looking, it seems that Takky (japanese duo of overclocker/modifiers) never did overclock the G4/400 gigabit model.

At XLR8yourmac.com, there are pictures from a guy who overclocked his DP processors. I fully expect you can follow the example there adapting it to single processors, with success.
If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

I overclocked mine to 500, i might try for 550, ill have to see how many jumpers Ill have to move.

anyway, do you know what machine you have, i have a mystic and the chip was already rated for 450 (its stamped on the chip iteself)

I dont have any info and my jumpers are not labeled so it was a real pain. ill try to find the scans I did, see if that helps

Andre -

Got to Mike's site www.xlr8yourmac.com and search.
I sent him pics of my DP board, but there's stuff there on the singles too. Same process, very delicate soldering. Not a huge speed jump, but it sure feels good when it works.

Its a bit unfortunate that mac overclocking requires actual messing with motherboards..its a bit more dangerous for the computer and yourself. I wonder...is there a MAC Bios screen like PCs have?
