Hey y'all.... I've got a RevA iMac 233 Bondi Blue with a replacement Western Digital 40 GB internal EIDE drive and the Gamewizard Voodoo 2 Card. My CPU was running at 69-70? C (about 155?F). I just added a little portable clip-on fan that I found in an old drawer- and now my Mac is running at 67?C(152?F). Is this an ok speed? Is this above average? Should I rig up another fan? I have never really thought about if my CPU was running too hot. I assume that if it was a problem then I would have had trouble with performance, but I never gave it much thought.

I would love to know if I'm in the healthy range of iMac temps - thanx y'all.

If you find a big fan, attach it on top of your iMac so that it sucks air out...also if you know what to do, override the temp control for the internal cooling fan so that it spins all the time at max...my rev. D goes at stedy 30 degrees Celsius now...(no mods yet, but will be...)

The temperature reported is WILDLY inaccurate. It is normally only good as a relative indicator.
There is a shareware called Thermograph that has a calibrate mode(you supply an offset value). The other nice thing about Thermograph is it reads BOTH processors in a duallie. That became important to me when I got a DP 500. Cheap too, think it was 7 bucks or something...
With the extras in the iMac, it probably wouldn't hurt to replace the internal fan with a higher velocity/flowrate one. My old cyborg'd 8500 has 7 extra fans in it and a bunch of holes drilled in the side.
Before you modify it, since it's kinda old, find someplace with clean compressed air and blow it out real good(or get a couple of cans of it at any electronics/computer store). Get rid of all the dust-bunnies and see if it runs any cooler. Pay good attention to the fan blades. Any buildup on the vanes will really kill your airflow. If you add an external fan, check the iMac's airflow with a cigarette, watch the smoke. Place the fan so it aids the flow(real simple concept but it gets overlooked easily)

The temps you have are not unusual for an iMac, especially if you have an Aluminum chip. If you want to lower them, a little heat sink paste between the processor and the heatsink will go along ways. I lowered the temp on my O/C rev D from 55-60 C to 30-40 C. try that before you get too drastic with fans and holes and such.
