Need to know which G3 upgrades are best. Don't understand the difference between PCI or Zif — that is, which will be fastest and most trouble-free on my 300 mhz G3.

It is my understanding that jumping my G3 to a 500 mhz G4 will do little more for me for the $$ as I am not a heavy graphics or video user but do mostly online, wordprocessing, and some small filemaker stuff.

Does anyone think faster than 500 mhz upgrades are near for beige G3's?

Please comment.

The PCI upgrade doesn't apply to the Beige G3 - it's meant for the versions without a ZIF socket, which you do have.

There is an excellent source of reviews at xlr8yourmac.com, if you haven't seen it already. You can see the user reviews of tons of ZIF upgrades here. G3 and G4 all speeds. Just search by manufacturer. You can also see overclocking results if you use 'Apple' as the manufacturer.

As far as seeing the G3 faster than 500MHz, I think it should be possible, unless I'm forgetting something. The maximum frequency multiplier on the G3 is 10X, IIRC, and the bus speed in the Beige is 66MHz but only supports an 8X multiplier for the CPU. So, you could only have ,theoretically, a 528MHz CPU.
