I have a G4/450 Rev 2.6, which was ordered 1 day after announcement and received in October of '99...Originally, the internal temperature was 22C, which was below ambient temp, thus not quite right, but since then, I've added several things to my machine to make it get progressively warmer. Currently, I have the following hardware/software to make it warm:
Apple Radeon (different from retail in that it has no fan) +4C
Extra 30 GB 7200 ATA/66 HD in Slave +4C
ixMicro TV card +1C
Adaptec 2930 SCSI card +1C
Xlr8 to OC cache from 225Mhz to 300Mhz +1C
2 more RAM modules to make it 384MB of RAM +1C
so right now, my CPU is measured at 34C and running on only the powersupply fan. Memory performance varies between 225 - 240 MB/sec, which I'm pretty happy about. However, if possible, can someone recommend a way to make my internals run cooler? ie another fan? I don't mind the noise, but the thing is, the heat-sink of the G4 CPU is in a weird shape, so adding a fan on top of that isn't very easy/practical. Ideas? links? anything? ^_^ (I'm no longer sure if I can safely add a SoundBlaster or another PCI card in there if I want to...)
TIA

Do a search for "Arctic Silver", it's a VERY good thermal paste and will shave a few degrees off your temperature.
Also check out Jeremy Kezer's "Thermograph", it has a calibration mode to more accurately report the temp.
7 dollar shareware I think, and worth every penny.
Keep the room temp as cool as possible.
Blow out the P/S with compressed air to ensure max air flow.
RC5 is turned off and I show 96° F and 89°F on my duallie, ambient is about 74°F.
Just turned RC5 back on and temp is climbing, steady after ten minutes at 125°F on both processors.

Arctic Silver 2 made cooling much faster, so now, when I launch Gauge Pro after some CPU-intense usage, I can see temperature drop by 4C after about a minute (and stablizes there), which wasn't the case before. That is a good thing Also, memory performance seems to stay above 233MB/sec for the most part now, which is cool too
I don't do RC5, but seti, and when I go home today, I'll truely see if things are "okay," 'cuz for the past 2 days the Radeon's been installed, Seti crashed every afternoon, I'm guessing from CPU over-heating. Since electricity is so expensive in CA, cooling the ambiant temp is kinda hard for now, so I'll just hope that things run "normal" for now on ^_^ (last resort would be running it open-case, but that'll attract dirt like a magnet...) thx for the advice, and anyone got more ideas?

If you run it open case, make sure you have a high volume fan blowing on the MoBo over the processor/PCI card area, and another on your drives in the case. P/S fan takes care of this when closed.

Just got a fan to place in the last avilable PCI slot...let's see how well that works...
my G4 seems stable enough right now, even after an hour of Quake-ing...though it shoots the temp up to 38C. We'll see if the extra fan helps thx for your help, zac
