Ok...I know it's not a Mac modification, but I'm still proud of this mod, and have no where else to post it to share with other people.

The amplifier in my KLH sub recently died. I didn't want to throw away a perfectly good sub and enclosure. The subwoofer I had in my car was large, and had a lot of wires going into it. Whenever I had to take the sub out, to go on ski trips, etc., I had to disconnect something like 13 cables, each held into the amp and crossover by a screw. Then I had to connect everything again when I put it back in. I decided to replace the dead amp in the KLH with the working amp and crossover from my car, and make some kind of easy connection so it could be installed/removed without too much work.

With the finished product, I now only have 2 wires going to the sub, and they just plug in, instead of screw in, like before. What I did was put the amp and crossover inside the sub, and wire them internally. I thought I would make use of the power cord that was already on the sub, so I wired the positive and ground cables to an outlet in my trunk, so I can just plug in, or unplug the power, like in a house. Then I just needed the remote signal for the antenna (to keep the amp from being on when the car is off), and the signal for the sub. I had a headphone extension cable, that had 3 wires in it (just the number I needed). I cut that, and wired the female end to the sub. Then I put the male end connected to the remote, and the wires from the car's head unit. Now I just plug in the power, and a head phone plug, and the sub is connected. Here are some pictures:

Oh yeah...I replaced the KLH with a real sub - a Klipsch KSW-12 440 watt 12" sub. It just came in about 2 hours ago. It kicks the KLH sub's ass.

Kev,

cable ties and split wire loom instead of duct tape- classier, lasts longer, and not near as messy if you ever have to undo it.

That's all stuff I would have to buy. Duct tape is free (there's a duct tape tree outside) Seriously though...I didn't want to spend anything on this. I already had to spend $326 on a new subwoofer for the home theater. I spent $0 on this mod. I just used stuff I had in my "cable box" (a speaker box with ~40 pounds of miscellaneous wires in it)

Ah-- see, that's stuff I have in my wire box. (less amounts of wire, more gauges, cable ties, split wire loom...)

Do you have an AC-3 receiver, or THX, or what?

Victor

It's a THX - Ultra receiver. I have a Pioneer Elite VSX-36TX. I love it. I watched Titan AE earlier today with the new sub. I just know I am going to get evicted.
