Ok, Im hooked on this no cable nonsense.
Power my Ti with a 12v DC current regulated supply (like the emPower in flight stuff) over the Ethernet cable. What is the current draw of a Ti, just enough to keep the system from using battery power ?
I'll then hack my Ti to use the same PoE system that my IP phones use, and the ABS.
Cheers,
Ben.

ok, but you arent really hacking the Ti a'tall... all you hafta do is inject the power into the Cat5 on one end and pull it OUT of the cable and into the power in on the back of the Ti on the other end.
oh yeah...EXCEPT....you cant do it witha Ti. well, shouldnt anyways. 1000Bt uses all of the conductors inside the Ethernet cable...PoE only works because regular 100Bt leaves an unused pair...

1) I have an older 500mhz <sobs>
2) I inject, and leave it in. The power is delivered into the laptop via the ethernet socket, and rerouted to the power connector...
in theory.

thats more of a hack then you'd wanna....at the very least because, should you ever be somewhere that you're using your normal power adapter, you'd now be sending AC power INTO the Ethernet cable that you were plugged into...the switch on the other end would NOT be happy...

Errr, nope.
You'd be sending DC. That thought did ocurr. I'm going to put a nice little reverse voltage protection diode in there power comes in via ethernet, but can't go out.
Typically switches and so on use an opto isolator on every port to protect from exactly that ocurring. All but the cheapest have them. As for the others.... serves them right for being cheap. :o)

sounds like a cool idea, actually. reduce the number of cords that you have...
now, if you could get power to go over AIRPORT...that would be cool
