I have a Cube that's equipped with a G4/500 processor, and I was wondering if it could possibly be overclocked. I was reading MacAddict this past month and there is a section about overclocking there. They featured overclocking one of the new QuickSilver chips, however, I was wondering if they "missed" this particular chip I'm referring to now. Thanks

Yes, it's possible. I know someone on XLR8YouMac recently overclocked their 500 to 550. I think you just have to connect two points on the processor card. 500 to 550 is one of the easiest to do, if it works. You don't have to remove any resistors as far as I know.

Hey, thanks for the update, but I read that forum and I'm almost positive that they were referring to a dual 500 rather than a regular one. I'll check back on the site later to see if there is something about upping the speed on a single-processor 500 MhZ chip.

it was about a dual.
anyway, why would you want to overclock a good computer?
you don't know who the article wrote so I wouldn't thrust him.
I think it is a little bit stupid that each time Apple releases a new processor, this forum someone steps out the same day and asks : "Hey, how about overclocking an 867?" The storyline is always the same : maybe this.. I heard a story that...
I could buy a g3 300 once that ran on 450, but the cache couldn't cope with the increased processorspeed.

There are articles on the single and dual processor boards. Here is the article about the single CPU in the Sawtooth (the same as in the Cube). The first half of the page is about running the bus at 133MHz. Skip down to the bottom for how to change the multiplier.

micha - why criticize the people who like to tinker with their computers? If you don't want to overclock yours, I don't care. Why do you care if other people want to overclock theirs? Some people like custom icons. Others like custom paint jobs, and some people want custom hardware setups. Not many people can say they have a dual 600 G4, or a 933 or 1GHz G4. I get bored with my computer if I don't constanly have some kind of project I am working on.

Mine works fine. OC'd it when it was a month old and no regrets.
