I just changed out my CD into my iBook for a DVD. It's pretty easy for anyone who wants to do it. Nowhere near as hard as the overclock.

One thing I'd like to know is where to get upgrade parts. (you are talking about the 2001 ibook, right?)

I got the DVD from a guy right here on the forums. Basically you have to find someone with a dead machine or some who's upgraded to a CDRW/Combo drive. Yep iBook 2001

I haven't done an optical drive yet, but my experience inside the iBook corroborates X user's comments. There's not too many screws to deal with.

hmm...after Apple's repair monkey's botched my CD-RW repair, upgrading to a combo on my own seems like a interesting prospect...

Does anyone know the model number of the 8x burning Combo that appears to be going into the new 12.1 inch combo machines?

I'm thinking its a Sony, CRX-###.... Searched around, but it's probably too new to be on the retail channel right now.

my CD-RW is CRX-700E... not a bad burner, just that Toshiba burner would be too slow for my tastes. 15+ mins a CD... fuggetabout it!

Don't know if that drive will work or not. The panel oviously won't match, but it probably will work. The dimentions look ok from here.
