I have a G4 466 mhz cd-rw. I would like to be able to play dvd's on it and it appears an internal one would be the cheapest. I was wondering if you can put one in the zip drive. If you can how hard is it, and would i need to install software for it to register?

Sorry, replacing the existing cd drive with a super or combo drive is your only internal option. The lower drive bay reserved for a zip is restricted to 3.5 inch drives. When the side of the case folds up and closes, the processor and its heatsinc sit right up against the drive bay. Putting a 5.25 inch drive in that spot would prevent you from being able to close the case.

I did it, and it works great. But you have to do alot of cutting with a dremel. I can watch DVDs and Burn CDs, at the same time :-p Its really good for coping CDs though. If you had one of the 100 MHz Bus models, it would be much harder, almost impossible, but with a 133 bus model like i have, the processors are moved over, so some cutting and it pretty much fits. If you really want ill take some internal shots some other day. The thing they really call me crazy for is the fact that i did all the cutting with the case open while it was running, i run a few web sites and didn't wanna shutdown, so I covered the motherboard and dremeled away. No software or anything is needed. I got a slot loading DVD drive (Pioneer) so I just dremel'd a slot in my factory cover and it works great! Looks a little rough cause i don't have the steadiest hand but hey I'm very happy with my work. (FYW the CRT is run of the factory GF2 card, the LCD and my TV are run off an ATi 7500)
