Ok, my Pismo is out of warrantly and I will have finished my A-levels as of the end of june (I can't wait!!)

I will be going to uni in september, and am planning on mod-ing my machine (I'm not going to replace as i have a FP iMac 800)

So my question(s) are:

1) what has everyone done to their Pismo's that you would recommend? (pictures if applicable/available?)

2) Has anyone in the UK done the 'silver case thing' where did you get the material from? I was planning to go for a colour slightly more adventurous than silver, any suggestions?

PS: I know this topic has partly been covered before, I just wanted a round up of everything, and I would reckon that every Pismo is almost (unless u bought 3 yrs Apple Care) out of warranty, so more and more people will be doing mod's.

thanks

Tom

The silver case trick is best done with outdoor heavy duty vinyl, as purchased from a local sign shop. It cost less than cans of paint from the hobby shop, and is more durable. I tried using the fancy pactra paint before going with vinyl, and the paint rubs off. Go to the local sign store, have them show you all the colors available, and go nuts. If you don't like the look, you can always peel it off, no harm done.

Photos of the powerbook are here: <a href="http://homepage.mac.com/lvmarks/PhotoAlbum11.html" target="_blank">http://homepage.mac.com/lvmarks/PhotoAlbum11.html</a>

or, you could always overclock it-

If this post is in the Lounge forum, it is likely to be my own opinion, and not representative of the position of MacNN.com.

I guess I will give you a contrasting opinion. You can check my signature for what I did to my powerbook, but I haven't had the paint rub off at all (not even a little). However, I must say that I don't carry my powerbook with me every day or anything, and when I do take it with me, I put it in a special "wetsuit" kind of case. So that may well have something to do with it.

I have seen some pretty impressive things with "cutting sheets" (the vinyl) but I've also seen some things that look like crap. I guess this is true no matter what method you choose -- you have to do it carefully to get a good result.

Check out So Be Ray for good examples of Powerbook mods.
