Just finished upgrading my Cube to a dual 500 g4 sawtooth cpu module, 80 GB Seagate Barracuda, 1 GB RAM, GeForce 3, and a fan. It's been a long time coming, but damn it's sweet. No big problems, just a hard time moving the inductor coil, and making sure i had enough Arctic Silver to keep the temps down below 80C (according to nibs excellent ArsMon).

Now that my warrantee's up on my iBook 500/66, it's time to upclock that system bus to 100.

I followed the basic outline from teh xlr8yourmac.com article about dual 450's, basically about moving the inductor. I also took the advice from joe from another thread about hitting up Tennmax for aluminum step up plates so the dual procs could hit the stock heat sink. it's fairly straightforward besides those two things.

i ended up getting a used sawtooth, took the dual out of that to put into the cube, and put the single into the sawtooth, so now i've got a server, a nice mac server to use for the home network. i never liked using netatalk, even though it worked.

i probably overpaid for the video card, doing a buy it now off ebay, for $280 i think. right after the jaguar announcement, there seemed to be a sudden availability of radeon and geforce apple oem cards up for auction.

Holy ****! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

You're running your CPU's at 80 degrees Celsius? Isn't that dangerously hot?

Athlons fry at about 65 degrees Celsius. Are you sure you're not talking about Fahrenheit? <img border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" title="" src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" />

I for one am considering going to a dual 533 (100mhz bus, 6x multiplyer, so overclock to dual 600 cube )

At least, that's when it would lock up, i'm assuming before it got fried. But now I'm running comfortably at 24 and 32 C, with no problems. And loving every minute of it.
