Don't have it. Probably never will. But it would sure look more appealing to me if you could seperate the base from the LCD screen. I have plenty of deskspace, so space is no problem. The LCD could than go in a frame simular to the current standard apple LCD screens. Would sure make it more cube like. I like the base, I like the panel. Only this metal thing in between.... If you want to every element to be true to itself as Steven and Jonathan say, why the hell do you want to link them?!
I think easiest would be to use one of those curly winded wires to connect the monitor to the computer, although it might be nicer if the wire emerged from the back. Mounting the LCD in a frame shouldn't be too hard. There already is a ledge where u could connect it to.
...
Maybe some mock-up

Wait until the iPaperweight comes out. The iLamp (a.k.a. iMac 2) needs to have the "lamp" feel to it, so the idea is NOT to remove the monitor. However, everyone seems to be so paranoid about removing the monitor, and I really don't get it. If you want a separate monitor, buy a desktop.

I'd wait cor pple's product wioth a detachable ltablet screetn. The bse unit will be about the size as the new iMac's base, but it will communicate via wireless Firewire or the like,

The deal is some people want a separate monitor, but do not want a high end machine (at least do not want to pay for one). We sued to have this option with things like the Mac LC. The cube would have sold millions if it was sold (and PRICED!) as a monitorless iMac.

If I want a Mac with my own choice of larger monitor, but an not interested in more drive bays or PCI slots, there is currently no choices on the market, and has not been for about 10 years. This is a serious deficiency in Apple product line, in my opinion.

If such a thing existed, I would certainly buy one!

Hmm, I guess you're right. Well, since Jobs is doing the Mac community a great favor by selling them a great machine for a great value, there might as well be a downslide, or else it would be the ultimate steal. I bought my Cube in the $2700 range, and that did not include the monitor.

Nevermind.. It's been yanked. However, there's a story on MacSlash about it.

Well, that will solve the problem for all of those ultra-paranoid Mac users who cannot seem to remove the screen.
