It works! It works! Partially, but it works.
I have made a circuit to interface my 900MHz cordless phone (it has an audio jack on the side) to a regular phone RJ-45 connector. It works with a regular phone, except that there are dialing issues. It should work with my laptop. Internet, with no wires
I will post circuits today or tomorrow.
Eat my shorts Apple. I won't be buying your $300 base station!

One of this year's EE design projects at the U of S was a wireless phone line interface. Their product works on digital IR transmission, but you may gain something from their experiences. You can e-mail one of the group members at zup131@mail.usask.ca .
Enjoy!

I believe he's talking about using the modem wirelessly (a la cordless phone), though 2.4 GHz cordless phones are also available.

Well he said 900mhz. Anyway, you need a modem on the other side too. With the airport base station it has it's own modem, it doesn't use the machines.

No localtalk, but that's actually how I helped out with my classmates' testing of their project - we just made a modem connection via kermit from one machine to the other (they had to have different phone numbers, but that's easily worked around). The project is intended to be used for Satellite television receivers. When someone orders pay-per-view, the receiver calls up the satellite company and lets them know to send the appropriate program. To avoid requiring the receiver to be near a phone jack, you could buy this wireless phone line interface and do the work that way.
