Hello,

I'd like to know what negative effects might be felt if I get somebody to (successfully) overclock my iBook 500 to a 600 and the bus from 66 to 100. I know it'll be significantly faster. What about negatives? Can anybody help? Also, is there somewhere I can send it to get overclocked. Someone trust worthy? Like a place that specializes in it? Thanks for your help!

There is no place you can send it, but did you read about that overclock somewhere, or did you jsut invent those numbers, becuase i doubt you can over clock the bus on an iBook, and i dobut overclockign the proc 100Mhz would be stable at all, if you can even do it.

FYI, I brought my cousins ibook to a local electronics repair shop, the owner (Ed) has worked on tiny electronics for many years, i gave him all the info i collected and he did it in a couple hours, he said the only hard part was getting it all apart (I have since found instructions online) he only charged me $40 for all his effort (he is also a family friend, so your price may vary) I suggest you find a place like this.

Luckily the ibook was stable at the 600/100 setup.
its a VERY nice boost, worth it if you can find someone who has the right equipement/experience.

and yes this is a fairly common upgrade, the 600/100 seems to be stable for many (not all) people. when was your iBook manufactured?

You can overclock the bus.
You can overclock to the numbers he stated.
Many people have done it already.
It's not impossible.
It's pretty stable for most people.
Go check XLR8YourMac.

Where is this place, roughly (city/state) in case some of us live nearby?

I read on XLR8yourmac that OCing the bus to 100 makes the time in OS X (I can't remember if it happens in 9) run 50% too fast. Does your clock keep the right time?

I went to xlr8yourmac.com and found this:
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/i...overclock.html

It's what I wanna do, but it seems risky. I don't know when my iBook was manufactured. I bought it at the first of August.

I have no idea how to do this though. Oh well...
