I had a thought. Has anyone considered turning the lower (zip drive) bay on a G4 into a dock for the iPod? I think there would be room, one would just need to fashion a bracket that could hold the iPod and a FW cable firmly in place and make some kind of access door. It would be cool and would put both the bay and the internal FW connector to use.
I don't know if I have the mental energy to attack it now, and I have a zip drive in there that I actually use- but someone should do it.

Unfortunately it seems rather impossible on newer G4s since I don't recall seeing a firewire port on the inside of mine

Wow... that's pretty slick. The only modding I do to my comps is adding more RAM, hard drives, or graphics cards

Just like that! That guy stole my idea!

note for the sarcatically impared:
I understand that he had the idea first. I am lashing out due to the shame I have brought upon me and my family by not doing basic reasearch.
But it's still a cool idea.

Makes me wish (almost) that I still had my G4 400 instead of my current G4 867.
The 400 had an internal FireWire port. :<

How about putting it above the CD Drive, it only needs the FW so cables arn't an issue. You would still then be left with a useful zip drive.

Call me stupid... or don't but.... Where is the internal firewire port? I have a dual 450 and could have sworn it had a internal firewire port available. I want to create an iPod dock and would rather not have a wire running in from the back when i could have it all internal.
Can anyone point some finger for me if I actually have one.

open the case and take a look, it looks just the same as the ones on the back and i believe it is mounted close by them.
if you don't have one, you don't have one.
btw, i think they were only on the b&w G3s and early G4s

Does the G4 466 digital audio happen to have an internal firewire port?
