I'd like to mod my iBook keyboard color (don't really care for the white keys). I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get keyboard letters to replaced the original ones, once the color is modified?

If they haven't already, I bet a japaneese company will release colored keyboard replacements soon.
If you haven't seen what was produced for the pb 2400 line, do a search for mighty-cat mods, or 2400 skeleton keyboards. These were a line of translucent keyboard replacements for the 2400.
If you want to do it on your own, I've seen talk of letter transfers for plastics, but I don't know how durable they would be.

Ok... I'll try the search and I'll keep an eye out for a third party replacement. I much prefer the translucent/charcoal keys of the TiBook and I wanted to either paint, or dye the iBook keys that color. It would go great with the case mod I'd like to do also. Thanks!

Check out
www.digitalhipps.com
They sell a product called "keyborg" just follow the links.
They are replacement keys in a (limited) range of colours, but better than the standard white.

That is so cool! I'd assumed that something like this wouldn't be available, but it's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks so much for the link.
They only mention keys for the 1st generation iBook; though I think I remember reading that the Dual USB model uses the same keyboard. Gotta confirm that before I order.

Please let us know if you did it and they fit, I broke my Backspace key trying to install the AirPort card and the full keyboard membrane costs like $90 dlls from Apple... I only want that one key and I guess I wouldn't mind having it another color
Anyway, I have an icebook too so please let us know if you got 'em and if they fit... thanks!

www.pbparts.com sell the standard original keys, separately. (For the poster who broke a key)

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

I don't suppose anyone here would know how long shipping times usually are on these things? I ordered a red set (ghost) today for my iBook dual USB (to go with an awesome casemod - pics will show up here after the keys show up and are installed).
Thanks folks!

Thanks for the link, I just ordered the part, 10 bucks is a lot better than 120 for the full keyboard

Did you just break it off (which is common and snaps right back on) or did the thing physically break into two pieces?

if you look in the powerbook forum, there is a thread going on about KEYborg. the people who made the keyboards for the older model are now going to make keys for the new dual usb ibooks and titanium powerbooks. they're asking what they should make. colors? fonts?
go and voice your opinion so they'll make what you want.

There's a hack on applefritter of an old Mac ( I think its a classic) where the beige keyboard was painted witha transparent red paint that looks really good. You can easily read the keys and it looks really nice. take a look.
