Hi.
I'm thinking about sandblasting the outside of my icebook. I think the matte finish would be better looking. It would probably have a better grip too.
Has anyone here ever tried anything like this?

I'd be interested to see if this would improve the scratch tolerance of the icebook's surface. Of course, I wouldn't attempt this until my warranty is up...

I blasted the back of my iPod and it's great. I never wipe it down because scratches and fingerprints just don't show.
However, for plastic, you're gonna have to use fairly coarse grit and it's gonna be real tough to get an even finish. I think the IceBook's outside is polycarb which is very resilient. We have some coarse black grit that looks like crushed obsidian, very sharp granules. Something like that ought to work. Get some Lexan scraps to practice on. I used it(on the inside as light diffuser) on a Pro-keyboard I backlit, and the finish was a light frost, but was very hard to keep it uniform.

Tycho over at the XLR8yourmac message boards just got done repainting the inside of his iBook. He cleaned out the white paint and redid the indise of it in black. It looks good with the gloss finish but would look even better with the frosted finish that a sandblasting would give the outside of the iBook.

Hey zac4mac, I'd love to see a pic of your new iPod back. What does it feel like?
