the problem with replacing the heatsink is, how will you secure it, and how little clearance is there for a replacement heatsink if it's taller than the original.

Some people have screwed fans on the original heat sink to help it cool a litle quicker.

I can easily imagine making the heatsink a waterblock and running tubing out to a water supply, radiator and pump.

the problem is securing the heatsink to the processor, and the height of the heatsink conflicting with the metal shield of the iMac that separates the screen and motherboard.

I just read an article about oc'n a rev a-d and the guy that wrote the article converted a heatsink intended for a K6, to use on his iMac. He relocated the fan to the top of the case and installed a heatsink fan blowing air up. Relocating the fan allows for a taller heatsink. Oh yeah he had to dremel up the K6 heatsink to get it to work. If you want I can try to dig up the article.
I know a guy from nantucket, and well lets just say the stories about him are greatly exaggerated.
