I know this is supposed to be about Mac modification, and I know that I should be talking about my G4. But right now I need some info about my PC.

I would like to get a little more speed, but I don't want to pay any more money to the PC world, so I want to overclock my Athlon XP. It originally was a 1466MHz with a 133MHz bus. I easily changed that to 1540MHz with a 140MHz bus. I now want to see if I can alter the CPU to Bus speed ratio. I had heard that it was more difficult with the XP. Is that true? Can it still be done? How? Or what websites can I look at to see how?

Any help, no matter how little, would be greatly appreciated.

The AMD 1.44Ghz is unlocked, I believe. Check with Google for your motherboard type and overclock sites. If is is an Abit KT7A, upgrade the BIOS (look up BIOSMODS) and more ratios will be available.

In general, if you overclock a Mac it is a hardware change, if you want to overclock a PC, get a MB that does it in software.
I am so bad at Quake I might as well be DOA

The best thing for you to do would be to go to one of those hardcore pc site forums (but don't mention you own a mac) and ask them. You'll probably get faster/better answers by people who have memorized every pc motherboard ever made there.

I run my Athlon XP 1800+ at the clock speed of the 2000+ by using a 145-megahertz bus clock. It's perfectly stable, and the CPU doesn't get too hot. The highest I've seen it is 128 degrees Fahrenheit. Granted, this is only possible if you have a quality motherboard. ASUS motherboards have been nothing but great for me in the past, and I've tried the same bus clock on ECS and EPoX motherboards unsuccessfully.

Thanks everyone. Especially since this wasn't about Mac's.

For now i moved the bus speed up to 143MHz which makes the processor run at 1573MHz and it runs at a cool 45°C. I suspect that the CPU is stable at higher speeds, but i won't try to unlock it yet. but i did fin out how to unlock it thanks to your advice.
