A while back, I started a G4 case mod which I now affectionately call the "Sheep in Wolf's Clothing." It's an Athlon 1900 system in a highly modified G4 case. Read the old discussion to get caught up.

Time for a project status update:

A large window has been cut out of the top; 2 windows have been cut out of the side; paint is all off the panels; and so on...

Now, I need some input on a few things.

1. I was thinking about buying a 5" LCD screen from cpufx.com. It's $150. It would be used as a screen for scrubbing through video (from VCR, DVD, camera, etc.), watching a movie, etc. while, *uh*, "working". Composite and S-Video inputs would be placed on the front of the case (below it).

2. The ABit AT7 mobo should work with the case - it only has 3 PCI and 1 AGP slot. It's a NICE board - USB 2.0, FireWire, 6 Channel Audio, etc. I got the official motherboard specifications and, from the looks of it, it appears the difference between ATX and microATX is 2.4" (and # of slots, of course - which I don't have to worry about on this board anyway).

3. Cooling - I was thinking of getting a Silverprop Cyclone 5 waterblock (w/ pump, reservoir, radiator, etc.) The only U.S. supplier (ICEePC.com) doesn't recieve the first shipment of them until early August. I am not sure if it is compatible with the Socket A processor. So, if I do go with watercooling, my next question is where do I put the radiator? It is 6"x6"x2" (w/o fan). In the middle of the top panel?

4. Peltier - would buying and installing a 80W peltier be overkill on this project? The processor will probably be an Athlon 1900.

5. The 3.5" drive bay. The bay will be used for a variety of things:

 • Inputs or input switch for the LCD screen. It would switch between output from my GF4 and input from the composite/S-Video ports on the case.

 • Inline temperature reading of the water cooling system.

 • Fan control switch (pot.)

 • Power and reset buttons - might use the G4's buttons if I can figure out how to control them (ie pulsating power button), which could take a bit of re-wiring...

Any questions/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, yes. I was also going to put in a UV light. I found a site with UV fans. I also found a site that sells high-quality UV paint. So, I will definately be stenciling "Here's to the crazy ones!" on the side panel!

Hey fellow modifier

If I were you I would build that TFT in your wall. why stick it into a Tower? Towers should be hidden; They make noise.

And about the 3.5" bay, why not build a Soundblaster live into it?

I am planning to mod a G3 B/W tower. I think it would be a good idea to mount the machine HORIZONTAL and build a transparant case around it. They modify racingbikes like that, did you know?

Put the TFT into the wall? Did I forget to mention that it's only FIVE INCHES WIDE?

Anyone else have any ideas?
