I just bought a Power Mac G3 and i tried to overclock it from 400Mhz to 450Mhz. That started up ok but then once running some applications would not start because of an eror type 1 IE Quarkexpress,Typestyler,Apperance Control Panel etc. Can anyone help me by telling me why this does'nt work. I would appreciate your help very much in clearing this problem. Also if it is'nt any trouble are there any other cool hacks for a Power mac G3 (I have looked in many of the topics on mac modification and I mostly see iMac). Please HELP

In any situation, is suggested you know what the hell you're doing before you go ahead and do it. Not all chips can be overclocked.

I have a request. Leave this forum, learn some things, then return.

Ditto. I recall telling you to just read for a while, because your knowledge equates to zero. Just read, ask questions, dont do anything. Then in like 4-6 months, then get into it.

If you don't want our comments don't post stupid crap. Also, if you had actually been reading posts in this forum, you wouldn't have questions, because all of these issues have already been addressed. (Specifically: how to overclock, dangers to overclocking, issues with overclocking, and why overclocking might not work.) So why you have any questions about these that have already been answered multiple times is beyond me.

ok, chill out morons. DAMN! CHILL!

Anyway, the case temperature doesnt matter. Cal, seriously, trying without having any knowledge is a path of certain death to your computer. You dont know much at all.... to me, you sound like a 13 yr old.. if that. What you need to do is READ a lot. Overclocking is not really somethign to discuss here.. go to www.xlr8yourmac.com. Read up. Keep reading. And when you've read enough, read more. Then post questions. Then try it.

As has been suggested by Ca$h and the others (although not necessarily politely , check out xlr8yourmac's boards. They have feedback from hundreds of Mac users who have overclocked and attempted to overclock their machines. Not all G3s can overclock, some are already at the highest speed they will go, and this is a per chip kind of thing, not just particular models of machine (which is why no-one will give you a maximum overclock value).
temperature can be dangerous to a chip's health, but even if the temperature doesn't go up significantly, the chip can still be self destructing. Generally, if its running faster, it'll last a shorter time. There's all sorts of nasty things that can happen to overclocked chips, not all of them immediately noticable. By the time you've found out you've got a problem, too late, dead chip.
I've got a G3 400 too, and I've thought about overclocking, but for the gain in speed, having seen the lack of successful overclocks for this particular chip on Xlr8yourmac, I've decided not to bother. More memory, faster hard drives, and fewer extensions make my work and play faster, that and saving up for a G4 chip at some point
