Are there any places in the iMac (1st gen) that I can get 9-12 volts DC somewhere???? Like some wires I could splice off from? Is that what fans use?

Just take it off the HDD power, it has both 5V and 12V lines....

Or take it from the pwer convertor off the power supply or the power supply fan.
