I have a revision A iMac, it only supports
128 MB of RAM, is there a way for it to recognise more than 128 megs? Maybe a more
powerful processor?

I'm typing this on a rev. A with 160 MB of physical RAM (32 + 128). The current limitation on RAM for a rev. A is 384 MB. You can achieve this by using a standard 256 MB module in the upper slot and a low profile 128 module in the lower slot. Only a low profile RAM module will fit in the lower slot. You can find these modules at most memory or mac resellers.

Check out the following for detailed installation instructions:

Hi,

I own the Rev.A iMac as well. It does support more than 128MB RAM, which I installed 2 128MB 144-pin RAM in it two months ago. It works great now for 256MB RAM without any VM. You can check the Micron web site for buying RAM. Hope this help.

My parents have a Rev A and I want to add a 128 chip for them. Is the 32MB chip that is already in it, in the upper or lower slot? I've seen both upper and lower slot 128MB chips available and I wasn't sure which to get. Thanks.

It's in the lower slot, but you can of course put it in the upper slot as well.

Although phrases such as "...search the archives..." come bounding to mind, the max RAM in RevA-D is 512Megs, the only reason lesser amounts are quoted on Apple's site is because larger SO-DIMM's were not available to test when the specifications were drafted. The only restriction is that the lower slot only accepts SO-DIMM's of 1.5" in depth where the upper slot accepts 2" deep versions.

In any event, a search of the archives would certainly serve well to illustrate how hotly this subject has been debated over the last eighteen months(not all that time here though)!

Hi I am using a Imac Rev A that has 256MB ram
You can put a 128MB LOW PROFILE in the lower slot, and a 128 MB Low Profile or regular chip in the upper slot, I also know that there is a 256MB upper slot chip available, so you could end up with 384Mb of ram is that enough for you. e-mail me at
rjkconst@gate.net if you need further info, and you can go to any auction or warehouse.com, but I buy most of mine on
E_Bay. Please contact me, and let me know how it goes, thanks Ron

Any thoughts if this LP 256 module would work in a Rev B? I believe that it can, but I want a second, third...opinion. It seems to be a great bargain:

i am curious if anyone has tried memory from http://www.memoryx.net or http://www.memorytogo.com both places have the cheapest prices in ram that i have seen, and the prices seem to good to be true. any help? i am anxious to upgrade from the painfull 32 mb of ram, that came with this rev a imac i got for $500. also what will increasing the vram do for me? it seems that you can max out the vram for less than $30 from most places, and i am curious if that $30 would be well spent. any info/help is appreciated
