I'm doing some tinkering with the keyboard usb ports, and was wondering if there's a way to get them to 'forget' the current they're limited to?

I'm basicaly trying to make a 'keyboard cam'. I have the cam, which is usb-powered, but won't work on the keyboard due to the low current they supply.

I've just finished fixing that problem, i.e. bypassed the power feed of the existing usb port, but it seems to still 'know' that it normally can't power the cam, so it isn't even trying.

Or could this be the cam itself reporting the low-power state? Does anyone know, when USB devices are connected, is there a handshaking or something that takes place where they establish what they can and can't do?

I've got my keyboard half apart, and the cam all apart, ready to join the two once I get this issue out of the way.

Thanks!

From what I understand about USB, the computer activly searches for USB devices, and when it hits one, the USB device returns a little data which tells the computer what driver to use. The driver, I think, tells the computer what the voltage needs to be.

Sounds like you'd have to hack the drivers. Yech.
