Anyone know if it"s possible (or how) to modify the Monitors control panel to allow 1152x870 video resolution? I know the video circuitry is capable of this and I hope the internal monitor will also sync.

I don't care about color depth or how small everything would be.

Try installing Wish I Were... It lets your Mac pretend to be another model of Mac. That might fool the OS into providing the other resolutions.

Ummmm... from my understanding of video sync modes, your iMac's video circuitry will autosense the resolutions and refresh rates supported by your monitor. You can try holding down control for the monitor res. control strip, or setting the monitors control panel to show all. if it doesn't list 1152x870, you can't do it. You'd likely blow the monitor if you could do it.

In other words: It's likely a hardware thing. Poking around the OS will do little good.

Wish I Were only fakes the processor, not video circuitry and certainly not the monitor.

Do you care how slow it will be?

Try Mac-on-Linux, it will give you choice of up to 1600x1200. I had to move around the MOL window to get to everything but it works.

Linux is free. MOL is free.
