Hey. I have the 9mg .pdf file on how to disassemble the iMac, but I cant figure it out. How do you get the front lower panel off? The part with the speakers? It says you just push the tabs and pull, but that DEFINATLy doesnt work. It feels like its going to break.
Any hints?

You need to pull the tabs away from the case, not push towards it. It took me a while to figure this out. Get a pair of needle nose pliars and pinch the little clip as you pull the front panel towards you. The front panel should pop right off. The tabs seem very fagile and at first I thought I broke it. But after closer examination the little clips was just fine.

I've taken this off a couple times, it's pretty basic stuff. You can remove the front lower panel first, but i've found it easier to pull out the mobo/HD/CD tray and remove the lower plastics (the section where the feet are) before taking off the front panel.
In either case, just push in on the ribbed tabs on the bottom of the case, make sure you don't snap the snall clips on the sides of the panel, and pull the panel outwards toward you.
Stogie's right, feels like you're going to snap you're iMac in two, but it works just fine. This will allow access to the screws holding down the striped monitor casing and expose the dreaded inner beigeness of the iMac (oh god!).

this discussion made me remeber, has anyone heard of talkin that metal sheilding off of the moniter board on the sides so it has a better look(in my opinion). I have always wanted to do this but didn't know if it(metal sheilding) actually served a purpose or not and didnt feel like putting it back together to find out that i fudged sumthin up by taking it off.

Its RF shielding. Mine is coming off. I already got rid of the RF cage on my processor, so my heatsink works EXTRA good now. One thing...when I turn my volume MAX, I can hear radio stations. I think it'll look better too... but thats only one reason I need to get in there. Hehe. HAhA!
MU-HAhahHAhAhahAhahHAH!
(Ca$h cackles knowing that he has all his needed parts... just needs some time to install them.... then... tick off all you guys cuz I look so cool, then having people copy me. Hehehe)
