There are many G3 upgrade cards available for said machine. The only problem with upgrading that one to a G3 is that i've seen a lot of monitor connector problems with the 61xx line, not good. stick with a seti server.

I painted mine, took out the DOS card, and put in a AV card and G3 upgrade. I don't use it though, so i guess the G3 card was a bit much. Oh well.
One of these days I'm gonna build a whole new case for it, like the computers on www.applefritter.com

I've got a 6100, and I decided to just get a new Mac. It's not worth it. G3/G4 NuBus upgrade + Hard Drive Upgrade + RamStacker/RAM out the wazoo = iMac DVSE - good graphics - DVD - USB - Firewire - H/K sound - stability - OSX compatibility. Might as well buy something with style instead.

One word: NetBSD. Good personal firewall machine. You can use the onboard ethernet plus an ethernet card in the PDS slot. (6100s have a PDS slot, not? Thought they did...)

I've got a G3 upgraded 6100 with an AV card and it's been rock stable with OS 8.5. You won't be able to use the DOS card with any of the G3 upgrades, though. It can get rather expensive to upgrade one of these machines, unless you get lucky and find some cheap prices. The AV cards tend to be about $100, the lowest priced G3 card is about $200, and 72-pin RAM can be expensive. If you do all the upgrades over time, it's not so bad, but you still might want to consider just getting a new machine.

I bought the Performa 6116CD back in 1996 and I am still using it. I did a lot of upgrade on this machine; Apple video card, 72MB RAM, 56k X2 USRobotics modem. WIth MacOS 8.6, this 4 1/2 years old Mac works great for me. One problem I found was the heating issue even without the G3/G4 upgrade card, this may be lead to the built-in video card. Well, I can say that the 6100 series machine is still good unless you are doing some PhotoShop, MP3, or 3D stuff on it.

Performa 6116CD, iMac Rev. A, iBook P1
Mac OS 8.6, Mac OS 9.0.4, and Mac OS X Dp4
72 MB SIMM, 256 MB, 96 MB.
