In theory, DVD RAM capable (if you can get a DVD RAM slot loader) or CD-RW. 75 Gig drive, 1.5 gig ram, and maybe Ca$h could swap the Rage 128Pro for an AGP Radeon when they're available.
Apart from possibly wiring a stealth port in where the modem is, what other ways could you modify it (I'd like to see someone swap in a dual 500 from the new G4s) ?

Cube mods??? Honestly, could we wait until they actually ship before thinking of ways to tear them apart?

Actually, the cube has a AGP2x slot, so a voodoo5 would fit nicely int here wouldnt it?
But seriously. HOLY **** . I want one SOOO bad. Anyone want my iMac? DVD and AGP2x, + a g4 processor?
I'm gonna go change my shorts.
Ca$h
PS: I should profit from this, as apple finally listened to me. HEhehe. And a bunch of others, but I was the only semi-violent person when discussing how crappy the vid cards were....

I thought they were cool too, until I started thinking about it. No PCI slots, and you can bet Apple's done their very best to make them non-upgradeable, (they seemed to do a pretty good job of that on the iMac DV's.) But the worst part is the price. I mean really. You can buy a way expandable, upgradeable G4 tower for less money. And I can just see all of my PC using friends making fun of the new iToaster.
The only reason to buy this would be if one couldn't afford a G4 tower and an iMac just wasn't enough power. But Apple nixed that market with the outrageous price.
I'd buy it if I knew I could expand it with hardware hacking. So, as soon as someone gets one TEAR THAT SUCKER APART
Just my 2¢ (And WAY more then I meant to say)

Ca$h, the V5 AGP will NOT fit in the iBorg. From what I read, the V5 itself is 13 inches in length!
Mac hobbiest will get the dual CPU G4 tower, since that's got much more juice for slightly more. Consumers will get iMacs...so where does that leave the iBorg? somewhere in-between and posibility the server market...I don't know...we'll see who flocks to buy those things. According to a poll at MacCentral, I'm the 1st one out of 200 people who's voted to have said "No" to the question of something like "will you buy the G4 Cube."

I don't see how you could fit a Raedon, Voodoo, or GeForce in a cube for a few reasons.
1) The Voodoos are way too big
2) The GeForce and Raedon both require fans or large heatsinks
3) None of them are AGP yet

1) Voodoo will definitely NOT fit. It's way too big and way too hot. a quad V5 (6000) will raise the ambient temperature by almost 10C!
2)Radeon has a built-in fan on board. Might raise ambient temperature slightly, but considering the temperature current G4s are running at, it's not a problem.
There is NO GeForce for Mac, so don't even go there.
3)Radeon will have AGP before PCI. AGP will be released in Sept. V5 will have AGP eventually, maybe when they do, they'll find some way to shrink the board. I'd like to see how they half the board size...it'll be VERY challenging.
Also, Apple will use the Radeon chip-set as rumored. The reason it didn't happen at MacWorld is because ATI was info leak that got Jobs very mad and pulled it on the last moment to teach ATI a lesson. Things will blow over after the Expo and by the time the iBorg ships in Sept, it should sport the Radeon chip-set.

Ummm... no... sounds like you've been hanging around Slashdot too long ;-) Apple can't ship the Radeon in desktop G4s and the Cube right now as the board won't be shipping until September 2000. I'm sure that ATi is ramping-up production as I type, but there is no way they could handle an OEM order for Apple right now. They simply don't have the inventory ready.
From what I understand, though, all Steve did was cut ATi out of his keynote, thus slapping their knuckles by NOTgiving them a huge PR op. It's rather simple, and I think it's better for the ATi/Apple relationship. It's almost certain ATi signed and NDA containing a press blackout. They violated that NDA, meaning Apple could sue them for breach of contract amongst other things. ATi should be glad that it got off easy as it did. Apple could very easily switch to another supplier such as nVidia (blah... these Voodoo gamer crap cards) if they wanted to write the drivers. That likely wouldn't be too hard as, iirc, there are nVidia drivers for x86 Linuxes which would port fairly easily.
