Has anybody done or seen any keyboard hacks for the Apple USB keyboard? I've seen mouse hacks, but haven't come across any for the keyboard. A couple of LED's in there would be really cool.

There we go...
two lime LEDs, one on each site by the Tab and - keys, and a big, bright-a** blue LED to light up the power key.

And it dosent just look good, its helpful for us nocturnals to find our input devices

As they said for the coming of the Mac IIsi:
"The future is so bright, u gotta wear shades(!)"

BooYa!

Did you really do that Sine, or are you just throwing out ideas. If you did it I think we'd all like to see some pictures

How'd you do it? I don't suppose you could make a tutorial. This is the type of thing that I wanted to do. And if I screw it up it's just an excuse to get a better keyboard.

Having a job and no room and board to pay ROCKS!!!!

oy, a tutorial?

jeez...
well:
a) pull out the screws on the back
b) pop off the following keys:
enter
0 (zero)
both command keys
space bar
control
c) using somthing flat and strong, pry the tabs apart on the bottom side of the board
d) after doing that for half an hour, pull the whole "ice" coloured top off
e)pull off the stuck on diffuser plastic piece on the top end of the board
f) pull of the caps lock key
g) unscrew the small screw under the capslock key and the one located between the alpha board and numeric pad
f) unscrew the cable retainer from the case (where the USB cable leads into the board)
g) pull the keypad/board/cable unit out of the bottom plastic case
h) locate where the wires from the left/right USB jacks lead to the circut board
i) wire up your LEDs as wished, positioning them whereever you see fit
j) connect the LEDs to pin 1 and 4 of the USB jack wires (confirm polarity)
k) try pluging the thing in
l) if it dosent blow up, and lights light up as wanted... reassemble. If they dont light up, try switching the wires (as polarity mite be wrong)
m) reassemble by basically following these steps backwards...

NOTES/WARNING:
1. Dont blame me if you/your keyboard dies during this operation...
2. When I reassembled my keyboard, the clips on the bottom side of the board dont hold the same so its somewhat loose etc. This could be avoided by more carful disassembaly.
3. VERIFY that your solder joints dont bridge contacts... as you may kill a) your keyboard b) Your USB BUS (!) c) yourself for killing your USB bus
4. It looks quite cool when its done... especially with the complementing lit mouse
5. Make it UNIQUE... try LEDs that match/clash with your iMac
6. If you have a graphite Mac, my work recently got in some WHITE LEDs, which I could send to u for $6CDN each + postage... (thats actually below average price... oh ya we got BLUE too )
7. NEVER EVER EVER buy your LEDs from Radio Shack.... they're too damn expensive!
8. Happy Hacking!!!!!!!!!!!

A while back I put a pulsating red LED in my iMac's mouse, looked like a spaceship at night, but it caused my mouse freeze onscreen, making me unplug it...plug it back in and after 5 min it would do it again .....I wonder what happened. Then recently I tried to do all those cool LEDs for the keyboard, but as I was taking the ice part off I heard some cracking and imediatly reminded myself that i was too broke to buy a new keyboard, and became envious of you.

You could always sell your body, semen, or blood. Of course, you're gonna really have to want that keyboard to take this route.
