Copper G3 that is. Mounted upon a daughtercard from Newer and quickly stuffed into a rev. B, to be more specific.

UT is much smoother. I was stoked for about 15 min., but now I…need…more speed… Where are the Dylithium crystals?

It's the G3/466MHz. I decided to keep the iMac till the whole OS X, Vid card, and the MHz challenged CPU thing gets sorted out.

It's a good solid upgrade, nothing earth shattering. You can see all the places where the old processor choked, and as a result you can also see where the 466 chokes as well.

With everything set on high, music off, and dynamic lighting/ decals off, it gets 29.41 in the cityintro. I tried a Bot match (5 bots) in dm-Crane and it was still barely playable. Still, the performance is pretty good. All of a sudden I'm winning a lot of matches.

I'm thinking about Deus Ex. How does it run on your machine? I don't like turning the graphics down.

I don't know how Deus Ex runs on a beefed up iMac, but have you invested in a Game Wizard? The rev. B is the perfect machine for that and I know it boosts performance in many other games.

It's not really the CPU power that determines your FPS rate (though it is a factor), but the graphpics card.

Wrong. There was about an 11 fps increase with the 466 upgrade, a good 50% increase in the flyby. Ingame increase was less dramatic.

Depending on the card or the cpu, either or could be the choke point.

well, you're wrong. With iMacs it is definatly the vid card, not the CPU. A 233mhz iMac with a gamewizard will spank a 466mhz with an ati rage blow EASILY. My computer (333 with gamewizard) gets about 30-32 fps in the flyby thing in UT with everything on high, and decals and music and everything.

Get a gamewizard.

Looks like your 333 is faster than this 466/Game Wizard. Wierd. Anyway, I just took it for granted that UT is always played with 3D acceleration. The main point is that the 233 processor left something to be desired when it came to maxing out the Voodoo 2.

Hrm. Very strange indeed. I expected more. How much ram do you have? I give UT 150 megs, and I have 192.

Doesn't the 466 from newer have 1Mb of backside cache. That's prolly where a lot of the improvement comes from. Ram is pretty important too though.

Ok posters time to let them have it. MacNN Staff It's our duty to let MacNN know we hate intelliTXT!
