I want to create a souped up beige G3 minitower. Anyone know where I can pick up a resonably priced one (any model as long as it's a Beige G3 minitower). Things I don't need: Hard drive, RAM, Rage II graphics accelerator (on logic board?) (I'm gonna ditch that POS and put in a Rage 128 Orion and a Voodoo 3). The cheapest one I've sean in a catalog is 899 (and like 550 on ebay but knowing ebay it'll probably shoot up to 1000 bucks) (with HDD RAM etc). Anyone know where to get this stuff???

Good luck finding one without RAM and without a hard drive. Essential system components usually come with those things.

Just buy a new system!

Ok, say you buy a Beige 266/64Mb/6Gb for around $900+ just for a very rough estimate. You then probably want to upgrade the processor ( a few hundred dollars at least). Now lets say a larger hard drive and more RAM (more bucks) and definately a new Voodoo5 (sincle its only decent PCI video card.

Phew...you've now spent hundreds of extra dollars whereas you coulda just gone to smalldog and bought a G4/400 for the same amount you have spent. + you have a cool graphite case and up to date ports and totally original system to upgrade later!

If there's any advantage in going the Beige route i'd like to hear

Very well said, MacNZ. There is a reason why Apple decided to update all their computers....How long has the "new" industrial design been around for now, 2 years? you can get (i can't remember where i saw this) a B&W G3 tower, stripped w/o hd, ram, or external media for 1000 bucks. modern system bus/ architecture, etc, compatible with OS X too.
