Thats right. Last night I got an 8100/100&7200/120...for free. They are both pretty stripped (no HDs, CD-ROMS, Floppies, RAM). But, now comes the fun part.

First I have a question. Is there a way to hook an ATA CDROM(from a beige G3) to the int SCSI bus of the 7200?? (SCSI-ATA adapter?)

8100-
I want to get this one on its feet, but thats about it. Im looking for a 1GB SCSI HD, CDROM, SCCI zip(int).

7200-
This one, I will work on. Im looking for suggestions. I have a 9GB Seagate UltraSCSI-3 Wide (or whatever order that stuff is supposed to go), and will get a SCSI card for it. Possibly a G3 upgrade. If OSX will not work on this w/the G3, then Ill use it as a Linux Server when I get DSL.

Sorry to say, but the 7200 is a sad piece of work. (don't mean to offend any 7200 owners out there).

I have two semi-stripped 7200's (no memory, but +cdrom and +HD), that I bought for 10 bucks each sitting in the computer lab at school. I still haven't figured out what to do with them, except maybe a printer stand or something.

They are virtually the only PM for which there is absolutely no upgrade path. Processor is soldered on. In addition, they use FPM memory, and I haven't found a reasonable source of it since they've stopped manufacturing it completely.

The 8100 has some potential though.

What a bummer! After wrote that post, I found out the dirt on the 7200.

I think Ill go to a used computer store neer by and see if I can work a trade. At least the price was right.

I want to be able to run LinuxPPC, so the 8100 will be refitted and given to my girlfriends mom.

If either of you are considering selling the 7200s let me know (and put up the specs). I'd like to put together a cheap@$$ print/email/web/file server or possibly a server for Terminus (though I'm not sure a 7200 would even be able to run Terminus). I wouldn't be willing to spend a lot but I am willing to buy if no one else is. In other words, check other places first, but if no one takes it, let me know.

Thanks

the 7200's are solid machines from a stability and case design standpoint, although it is annoying that they can't be upgraded.

LinuxPPC is compatable with all of the 7200 series - give that a try. I have a 7200 running LinuxPPC 1999, and it works great. These machines still have a long life ahead of them!

(I got my memory for it from Memoryx.net)
