I know that upgrading the iMac is hard or darn near impossible, but almost every aspect of it has been able...such as the VD2...Processor, etc....

Since I have the 40GB Maxtor 7200RPM....and it's better off at a ata/66, but the iMac has a (rev. a) ata/33, is there anyway to upgrade/ replace it?

The ATA/33 controller is on the motherboard... unless you're an engineer and soldering genius you won't be able to do much with it.
