they featured this article http://sysopt.earthweb.com/articles/cabround/index.html on slashdot a few weeks ago. It was about separating the flat cables on ide and rounding them. I figure it would make my imac run a little bit cooler. Has anyone tried this....ca$h?

Ok posters time to let them have it. MacNN Staff It's our duty to let MacNN know we hate intelliTXT!

I don't really know if that would affect the cooling of your iMac enough to be worth it, unless you are planning to overclock the thing to 100 GHz... I think the iMacs run pretty cool as it is...

The cable rounding I believe, defeats the eintire purpose of cable flattening (which I am unsure what it is). I think it is just a waste of time, especially on macs which run fairly cool. My proc is overclocked and is cooler than room temperature, without any additional cooling (Beige G3, Newer processor upgrade, 466@488mhz).

I don't know if this is done in the iMac, but sometimes ribbon cables are configured with ground conductors alternating with signal conductors to give more uniform impedance and reduce crosstalk between conductors. Obviously cable-rounding would blow that scheme to bits.

I go by the "if it ain't broke" rule for stuff like this...

Jes my two cents...
