And I will finally stop whining about an Apple conspiracy against upgrades. I haven't read through all, see for yourself.

If they can add a G4 to an old iMac, why not Firewire?

Huh? let me see if I understand you, fletch...you are wondering why they can't add firewire ports as an upgrade to the older iMacs? or did I miss something...
G4/450, T-bird 1.05GHz, iBook 500, iBook 233...4 different machines, 4 different OSes...(9, 2k, X.1, YDL2.2 respectively) PiA to maintain...

I just got my iMaxpowr G4 card for my rev. c, now I have 160 mb ram and a g4 processor, now is there anyway to upgrade video ram?

I disagree with the review of the iMaxpowr G4 it should have beaten the iForce's 4 stars, Newertech used old apple processors, it is just a hardware switch (which was very easy to do) with the iForce it uses its own parts meaning that it boots up differently and may not work with OS X whereas iMaxpowr will definatly work also you need software for the iForce to work. Installation as I said before is easy with the iMaxpowr, just a hardware switch, w/ the iForce it tells you to boot the computer while the thing is opened up.

I disagree, I find the iForce much more impressive. They designed a whole new daughtercard from the ground up, and doubtlessly improved a few things here and there. Thats simply.. WOAH! makes you gasp! Simply replacing chips doesnt sound that revolutionary to me, and makes me feel ripped off for getting a USED daughtercard with a new chip stuck on it. I hope Powerlogix makes a G4, it will be way better than Newertech's. And it doesnt need special software to run, it just has software to INSTALL It... Apple's ROM is on the daughtercard, and this special software copies the ROM off from your current card onto the existing one. Very elegant solution instead of just "hacking" the hardware.

But still Mac OS X probably won't work on the Powerlogix which is why I got the Newertech. I am definatly upgrading to OS X so I got the Newertech, plus Powerlogix just realeased their 500 mhz G3 at MWNY meaning they probably won't release another card for a while. One more thing Powerlogix G3 500 mhz is 500 dollars their 400 mhz is like 300 so their G4 might very well be over 700 a lot more expensive than the 550 dollar cost after the rebate

Ok, not to be rude, but why the hell do you insist that powerlogix's chip will not work under OSX? Thats the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Thats like saying your hard drive wont work when you upgrade to OSX. The chip is just that, a chip. It processes instructions, and if it works under OS9, it will work under OSX. Personally, I just think you're trying to justify purchasing a "hacked" used chip for an extravagant amount of money.

Right on baby! It's simply a question of new versus used and the amount of money you are willing spend. Not to mention that if you DON'T send your card back when you buy a Newer upgrade, the price does not even make sense anymore, whereas the iForce is cheaper, without having to send anything back...

Plus, think of it this way. I get a iForce for what, 500? Yeah. Cool. Now if I get my 333 o/ced for 90 bucks or so, I can sell it on EBay for like 2-3 hundred. Hrm. Anyone looking for a stable 433 hacked chip? sounds a lot like Newers doesnt it? heheh.

I guess a G4/433 chip on a used daughtercard sounds a hell of a lot better than a 333 chip that can be overclocked but isn't, or even a G3/500 chip on a new daughtercard that can be bought but wasn't.

At least PeteL999 put his money where his mouth is. His G4 is 433MHz in realtime—no theorizing there.

Kiss my ass. I WOULD have that chip by now but certain things in my life have made extra $ hard to find. Keep in mind I own 3 cars, 2 computers, paintball, ski, and go to college. Yeah, sure, I could make my Imac have a 566 G3 I'm sure, with a hacked mezz to PCI convertor with V5, but you know what? I wouldnt have anything else.

If Newer can solder G4s to 1st-gen iMac daughtercards, why can't they solder G4s to 2nd-gen iMac motherboards!?

either way both chips preform pretty similarly they both lift the iMac speed tremendously what you buy depends on preference and I prefer the G4 to the G3, and when you hack a Voodoo 5 into an iMac let me know

Please stay on topic. This is a discussion concerning the G4 upgrade by Newer Technologies and not cars.

About the 2nd-gen iMacs, though, I'm serious. If you can unsolder a G3 and solder on a G4 in the same place, why couldn't Newer do it to a 2nd-gen iMac? It's the motherboard instead of a daughtercard, but what's the difference? You just don't take any card out that the processor is on!

(I deleted a few of Ca$h's posts, thus I editied this one as the Ca$h comments were also off topic, but the rest of this post wasn't. - Thanks)
