Hey all, I've been mucking around on my Rev B iMac, taking in all these hacks ppl have been mentioning and am nearly finished. Kinda blew my budget majorly but this was kinda just Crazy project. Here's what we did.

1. Maxed my Rev B out to 512Mb with one normal and one low profile (expensive + annoying) SD-RAM chips
2. Modified a Voodoo 2 16Mb card for my mezz slot and got her up and running with OpenGL and V2 drivers for mac.
3. Stuck in a new 7200rpm 40.9 GB Maxtor hard drive
4. Added an ADB port I found out about on this nuts Japanese site.
5. Techworks CD-R drive
6. waiting..........for my new 500mhz/1mb L2 upgrade card. Due today or tomorrow!

This baby flies already cos I already OC'd my Rev B board but the new upgrade will rock. Anyone know if this new board will be clockable?? Also, any possibilities I've overlooked.....?

By the way I got the Rev B for free so had heapsa cash left for having a little bit of fun!!! Only prob was she's runnin a bit hot but still coping.

How did you add an ADB port? Isn't your mezzanine slot already filled by the graphics card?

Details. We need details, especially on how to adapt a PCI card for the Mez.

Hrm. Is it just me, or does someone else smell SH*T. I mean, who would spend THAT much $ on memory when you only need less than HALF of that? I really dont think ANYONE would actually put 512 megs of RAM in a computer without a PCI or AGP slot. It doesnt make sense. Also, you dont mention how you hooked up the 16 meg voodoo2 to the mezzanine connector, and you say taht you have the ADB port which uses that already. I'd bet a nut this is just another troll.

I don't understand the reason for an ADB port in the first place. USB is now so prevalant that you can find anything for USB that you can for ADB, if not more (I know there's more). If you already have some legacy devices that you absolutely need, and don't want to purchase replacements, i understand that, but what about the iMate? I've seen some really great success with that specific device. *sigh* I guess I'll never understand humans...

Is there a 256MB chip available for the lower slot? This is a tough crowd. You have to be to want to mod an iMac.

That ADB port really is just a simple hack. All hardware for ADB is on the motherboard except for the connector and some resistors. Check out http://www.bekkoame.ne.jp/~t-imai/ for more info.

Have installed the iForce upgrade and system seems to be runnin ok. Only prob which I also had before is that the OS (8.6) doesn't always seem to recognise all the memory!??
I got the system initially through a colleague in my med college. He was moving to Denver and wasn't taking his system with him. As one of the few mac-users in the department he gifted it to me. In other words it's not everyday you get gifted such a system.
The Voodoo II card is hard to get as it is a Pass through PCI card of which the VII is one of the few made for mac. Anyways, as with the gamewizard the card is essentially a PCI card adapted to run through the mezz slot which is a PCi-type interface. br br br, none of this is new.
The serial port (sorry, not ADB) was a hack which I got off a japanese site. This is done through the IrDA port on the fron of the Rev B. Prob was had to wire in a standard serial interface from this connection into the iMac's port board ( ie, hacking out space for the serial port near the RJ-45 and USB ports.

Sounds like someone is just trying to outshine Ca$h. If it is true it's a bloomin big waste of money. the voodoo woulda been hard to modify too wouldn't it??
Then he changes his mind from having added an ADB port to a serial port.
How much of this in reality is actually possibble?? I doubt much of it. Ca$h~?

I think its definatly possible to do. As we all discussed before, I think the little produced 16 meg microconversions voodoo2 COULD work on an iMac, but it would have to have the mezzanine connector converted to a PCI slot via ribbon cable,a nd the vid card would probably have to be mounted externally (almost definatly.. no room)

Anyway, yeah, its possible,I just dont believe this guy because :

A. Brand new member...
B. Changes to his iMac (someone else caught them)
C. He didnt say anything about the card being mounted externally
D. Just sorta "summarizes" the mezzanine to PCI slot thing...

So... yeah, I think he's full of crap. If not, cool, more power to ya.

Ca$h, please, in the future, be more forthcoming and welcoming to a new member.

I'm glad things are coming along with your system, Yoris!
