Is this at all possible? I read that it requires alot of soldering skills to do this. That is, with a newer G4, I think its called the "Sawtooth"?

Incorrect. He said the Sawtooth G4, G4/350s were Yikes!, not Sawtooths. The sawtooths require soldiering skills, the Yikes! had simple jumpers, I believe... I might be wrong, I don't have a G4 myself... I dunno, maybe you should ask (hoa)Xterm on how to overclock

Actually not all of the g4/350 models were Yikes based. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/1999...g4display.html proves just that.
"
CUPERTINO, California—December 2, 1999—Apple® today announced that it has enhanced its entire Power Mac™ G4 line to include the new Rage 128 Pro graphics card, featuring up to a 40 percent increase in 3D graphics performance and a digital video interface which supports Apple’s new digitally-driven LCD displays. In addition, the 350 MHz configuration has been upgraded to the same architecture used in the 400 MHz and 450 MHz configurations, and now comes with a DVD-ROM drive, AGP graphics and support for Apple’s AirPort™ wireless networking (optional $99 card required). The three new Power Mac G4 configurations are available immediately at the same prices as their predecessors. "

I don't have a G4 either.. But I just thought i'd join in anyway..
It makes sense that 350MHz G4's should easily be upgradeable to 400MHz. As everyone knows that the 350 machines are hastily bumped down 400MHz CPU's. However, I highly doubt that it's possible to take a 500MHz G4 any faster. Lets face it.. If this was reliably possible, then Apple would have done it themselves months ago in an attempt to keep up with the MHz speed wars with PC's.. But for whatever reason.. Apple has not mannaged to break the 500MHz barrier for some time.

I'd check with a guy named "tycho" over at the forums at www.xlr8yourmac.com. He's doing some submerged in mineral oil overclocking insane G3 or G4. I forget. that guy is NUTS.

About two weeks ago I treid to overclock my G4-400 sawtooth to 500 MHz, since it basically was only removing one resistor, which didn't seem too hard with my rather rudimentary soldering skills.
When I first tried to boot up, the machine got stuck at during the RAM test. Then I applied some paste to the cpu and the machine successfully booted 9.04 and the System Profiler said it was a 500 MHz machine.
Just to see how reliable this thing was now, I fired up Photoshop and did a gaussian blur on a 60mb picture. That finally made the machine lock up.
After that I soldered the resistor back in its place and my G4 runs reliably at 400 MHz again.
Before I try 450 MHz, I wonder, if anyone ever successfully overclocked a G4-400 to anything above the 400 MHz, it was made for?
BTW, the soldering is not too hard if you got halfway steady hands, a fine tipped soldering iron and maybe a few spare resistors, because you'll never find them again when they'll fall down. ;-) That's what happened to me.

What about overclocking G4/400 sawtooth to 450? Anyone done this? Is it safely possible? Ideas?
