Id like to overclock my rev A iBook, but im still deliberating on the speed to kick it up to. In another topic drewman said that he's running it at 400, but dang that sounds real high for a 300 chip.

The question I have for all of you is What processor do you have in YOUR iBook, and how hot does it run?? mine is a 3.0 Copper running at 100 degrees on average.

I don't think overclocking a laptop is a good idea. Bad cooling, and if it DOES work, you'll have some warm legs.

Thanks, only took a few seconds to whip up. Doesn't anybody have any responses for Sine? I'd like to know what people got their iBooks up to.

Anybody?

lol...

well anyhow, i Did chip the ibook . well actually twice.. first i put it up to 333 (man that was Scary... the resistors are TINY. theyre like the size of this equals sign = (at least on my screen)) Anyhow it worked so nicely i busted her open again and upped it to 366. Now its is Awesome fast! quake 3 runs really Decently, Way better than my iMac 333 ever could. and its got only 4mb vram (go figure)

Anyhow it seems to cruise along at 110-120 STILL and it runs way faster. (woohoo)

hmmm... scratch 110-120 degrees, it seems to run at 103 on average. Thats as cool, or even cooler than originally!
Even the bottom of the machine feels cooler when i sit it on the bed

I tried it once but I had 9.04 installed.
Now I am reading it is not compatible with 9.04.

Is this true?
Anyone out there using 9.04 with the overclocking mod?
Will it be compatible with OS X????

After you do the mod do you have to do anything like reinstall software? zap pram?

os X boots and runs fine, OS 9.0.4 seems to work fine as well... although it dosent seem to boot classic. that Could be an overclock thing...

Well I overclocked my tangerine (300MHz) ibook to 400 MHz since a couple month. It runs pretty stable. Temperature rose a bit up to 63°C which equals 152°F.
You should really have good soldering skills and experience due to the tiny SMD resistors you need to resolder.
The increase of speed is really obviously.
So go for it...

How does one tell what processor they have?

I think 466 is fast enough for me for now... dont want to fry it yet...

Yea, the only reason I overclocked mine is because I heard of many other people having it run stable for the last year... plus 300 has become quite slow, and the extra 66mhz has breathed some much needed life to the good ol' rev A :]
