Have you done that hack? If so please email me
Or post here.
I want to do it, but don't want to screw anything up - and don't know how to hook it up to the HD array.
TIA

heh, I was hopeing hat someone else has, It shouldn't be that hard, all it is is just an led hooked to two wires and they attach to 2 pins on the array. I have an external drive case that has a HD led already installed and will take the case apart tomarow to see what is really involved. I will post as soon as I know...

well crap...

I took my led light and wireing out of my external case and went to wire it up, and THERE'S NO FREEKIN PORT FOR AND LED LIGHT ON THE MOBO?!?!? (Venting my fustrations?) Geeze, even PC'S mobo's have an led port. So anyhow, I hooked it up to the port that my Adaptec SCSI card has and it works like planned. Problem is, the only time it'll lite up is when I use the external cd-r.

any other ideas? Where is the controller on the mobo anyway?

Have you seen those turquoise-glow nightlights that plug in your wall outlet? Of course you have!

Take one of those, clip the two power pins to a very short length and solder two-conductor cable to these ends.

Don't use an ugly wire because you will see it under your case. Rather use loudspeaker wire, something transparent, or whatever you think is cool.

Stick the amputated nightlight right behind the Apple logo and bring the wire to your computer's power supply. Attach the other end to 110V AC, wherever you can find it.

Or you could install a plug on that other end and make it work like that. It will be safer, but you will end up with a computer with two tails. Think differently

Hopefully, after this mod, the light from the nightlight will outshine the apple logo (yuck!) and no one will notice it.

The controller is integrated in the chipset. There is a LED connector directly on most HDs, use that instead. There should be a label on the drive with what pin does what
The low-end Mac Pro is the most overpriced Mac since the IIvx
